Any condition that’s causing serious oral pain, discomfort, or bleeding qualifies as an emergency
Same-day care is essential for protecting your oral health and relieving your pain and discomfort

If you need same-day emergency dentistry in Montebello, you can contact us at (323) 721-7153 to discuss your situation with our dental team. Then, Dr. Winslow will schedule you for a same-day appointment at Whittier Palm Dental.
While we can provide treatment for walk-ins, we ask that you call ahead whenever possible. This will ensure Dr. Winslow can clear his schedule and provide you with the care you need right away.
If you have scheduled your same-day appointment and have a bit of time before you need to come into our office, there are a few things you can do to deal with your dental emergency.
First, you can absorb blood, if present. Cotton balls, gauze, and clean paper towels are all suitable for this. Place the absorbent product over the affected area and hold it in place firmly to stanch the flow of blood.
You also can take over-the-counter pain medication. Ibuprofen, naproxen, and other such anti-inflammatories and pain relievers can help with your pain and discomfort. For a toothache, you could also consider using a topical treatment like Orajel.
Icing the cheek near the affected area may also help with your pain. Apply an ice pack to the cheek for no more than 10 minutes at a time. Icing the area for too long could result in tissue damage.
Oral trauma is a common cause of dental emergencies. Oral trauma can happen when playing sports or participating in a hobby like skateboarding, slipping and falling, and due to lots of other causes. Common emergencies caused by oral trauma include knocked-out teeth, loose teeth, cracked or broken teeth, and oral lacerations.
Toothaches are also an emergency. They are often caused by tooth infections, which can cause serious pain and discomfort, as well as long-term damage to your tooth. Loose, broken, or failing dental work such as crowns and fillings also counts as an emergency.
Typically, the answer is “no.” The ER is meant for life-threatening situations, and while dental emergencies are serious, they typically do not qualify. Most ERs do not have dentists on staff, so they may not be able to treat you. Even if they do, treatment at the ER is much more expensive.
You should only go to the ER if you think your life is at risk. For example, if you think your jaw is broken or you are having breathing difficulties, go to the ER. But for most dental emergencies, you should seek treatment from a Montebello emergency dentist like Dr. Jelani Winslow.
