A crown finished before you leave
A same-day crown is a custom ceramic or zirconia cap that is designed, milled, and bonded to your tooth in a single appointment, with no impression tray and, in most cases, no temporary. Our in-office CAD/CAM milling system is what makes that possible.
At Whittier Palm Dental, Montebello same-day crowns mean a cracked tooth or a failing filling can be fixed today instead of over two visits and a wait on a lab.
How does the visit work?
In many cases the whole crown, from scan to final bond, happens in one sitting.
- Scan: after numbing and shaping the tooth, we capture it with a high-resolution intraoral scanner instead of a tray of impression material.
- Design: Dr. Winslow designs the crown on screen to match the neighboring teeth and your bite.
- Mill: our in-office milling unit cuts the crown from a solid block of ceramic or zirconia.
- Fit and bond: we check the contacts and bite, polish or glaze, and cement the crown, and you leave chewing on a finished tooth.
Plan on roughly two hours in the chair and the waiting room.
When a crown is the right fix
A crown covers the whole tooth above the gumline, which makes it the right choice when too much structure is gone for a filling to hold.
Cracked or broken tooth
A crown holds a cracked tooth together and stops the crack from spreading. If the tooth broke today, we offer same-day emergency care when possible.
Large or failing filling
Once an old filling takes up more than about half the tooth, the remaining walls fracture under chewing. A crown replaces the filling and reinforces what is left.
After a root canal
A root-canal-treated tooth is more brittle, and back teeth in particular need a crown to survive biting forces. The crown can often be milled the same day the root canal is finished.
- Filling: small to moderate decay with strong walls left; tooth-colored composite, never amalgam.
- Inlay or onlay: damage too large for a filling but not enough for a crown, milled or printed digitally in-office.
- Crown: cracks, large failing fillings, root-canal-treated back teeth, or teeth worn flat.
- Implant: a tooth split below the gumline or broken beyond repair is replaced rather than crowned.
Your crown visit at Whittier Palm Dental
The visit starts with an exam and a digital X-ray to confirm the tooth is a good candidate.
After milling, we seat the crown, check your bite, and you leave with no temporary to protect and no second appointment to book. Our team works in English and Spanish.
Materials and technology behind the crown
- Ceramic and zirconia: milled in-office; ceramic for the most natural look on front teeth, zirconia for strength on molars.
- Gold and porcelain: still available, made by a lab over two visits.
- 3D printers: temporary crowns, inlays, onlays, and nightguards.
